The science textbook
Atomics for the Millions was written by Dr. Maxwell Leigh Eidenoff, who was part of the Atomic Bomb Project at Columbia University and the University of Chicago and co-authored by Hyman Ruchlis, a science teacher at Brooklyn’s Lafayette High School. One of Ruchlis' students was Maurice Sendak, and he offered Sendak $100 and a passing grade to illustrate the textbook. You can see more illustrations
