New and improved Robots and Monsters site

As I've mentioned many times in the past, I'm a big fan of Joe Alterio's Robots and Monsters site, where you can commission any sort of wild robot or monster drawing you can think of. Up until now, he's drawn the creatures himself, but today he announced that several additional artists will be available for commissions. The group is like a who's who of my favorite artists and I think I've featured each of them in the past, with two exceptions. So, let me remedy that by mentioning those two:

Business cards by David Huyck.

Many-armed barbarian by Robin Ator.

So, if you're interested in a victorian werewolf detective, or a fire-fighting futuristic robot, head over and commission something now. There's also desktop wallpapers and icons at the link.

And a few more links:

1. The Tokyo Film Festival, whose theme this year is green, won't show The Cove, which is about the annual dolphin slaughter in Japan. (Turns out the movie was produced by Fisher Stevens, who starred in two of my favorite guilty pleasures, an excellent episode of Columbo, and Hackers.)

2. Recently had a great time playing through the shooter game Let's Go Jungle! at Chuck E. Cheese with my son.

Useful business card

Omid Sadri's multi-functional business card:
There are three different cards within the set. One which suggests to use portion a of the card as a dental floss, one for cleaning under nails, and one for chewing gum. The objective was for the user to tear away the piece to use and keep the rest of the business card with my info.

Personalized Lego Minifig Business Card

Some Lego executives and public relations people get personalized Lego minifigs to use as business cards. Very clever, and it probably wouldn't be too tough to create some decals to make your own. Via these sites.

And a few more links:

1. Plush Little Big Planet's Sackboy as Astro Boy.

2. A 700-pound alleged drug dealer had to be transported to a New York court in a U-Haul trailer to be charged with various crimes. And when I say "court," I mean backed up to a loading dock, where he was met by the judge, prosecutor and other relevant people. The prosecutor says, "I don't know what outcome our office will ultimately approve of, but gross obesity in and of itself is no defense." Photo link. Via.

3. Author invited to gather comments critical of The Pirate Bay for use in the ongoing trial is actually a Pirate Bay fan. It's almost as if the Swedish prosecutors are intentionally sabotaging their case.
