Jar-Jar stars in a Microsoft ad

OK, for those of you who missed it, here's a typically bland Microsoft print ad, featuring a beautiful cultural rainbow (and what looks suspiciously like a MacBook).

The Polish apparently aren't as enthusiastic about the colors of the rainbow, and the ad was slightly modified for that market:

TechCrunch invited parodies, and received a huge number. My favorites star Jar-Jar and the blue screen of death:

I mean this sincerely, the Clone Wars episodes featuring Jar-Jar were so funny that I've become quite fond of him.

Colbert's at his best in this interview of Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. But the most uncomfortable moment is when Colbert simply lets Stone explain that Twitter is building "value" instead of "profit." Via.

And a few more links:

1. Relatedly, Mark Cuban says Twitter is for old people. I wonder if that's true.

2. Photoshop Disasters points out that new glamour photo of Reggie Bush and Kim Kardashian strongly indicates that Reggie Bush is a vampire.

Boston Globe editor says good journalism is "shockingly expensive" and uses as an example the fact that in 2002, the Globe spent more than $1 million to investigate and report on sexual abuse of children by priests. Anybody here think the media's ability to ferret out that scandal decades (centuries?) after it started represents a triumph of the old way of reporting news? Via.

The new Lego Republic Drop Ship with AT-OT features Wampa nose art. More photos here. I'd like to see a book of hypothetical Star Wars nose art. Something tells me Twi'leks would be popular.

And a few more links:

1. M.S. Corley posted redesigned book covers for The Spiderwick Chronicles (which I've never read).

2. The NY Times has an obituary for Ben Blank, "innovator" of graphics used in news broadcasts. For example:
When the launch of the first Sputnik satellite took Americans by surprise, in 1957, Mr. Blank created what is believed to be the first electronic animation by repeating camera shots of a rotating golf ball, which represented Sputnik, on the end of some coat-hanger wire; the wire was attached to a small rotating globe. For added effect he glued glittering stars to the black background.

More on disaster girl

Earlier I posted this image of a girl and wondered if it was Photoshopped. Thanks to Joseph, I learned that the original photo was taken by Dave Roth of his daughter Zoe, and is called "Firestarter." The image was published in JPG magazine and you see a photo of Zoe holding the magazine here. She's now been photoshopped into a variety of photos of disasters. Including this famous disaster of the legal system:

Here's a handy image you can use to add "Disaster Girl" to a photo of your choice. I wonder if this will be brought up at her future job interviews? (And the fact that this was all news to me shows how little time I spend at sites like Digg and Reddit.)
