Disney Art for Music:
Disney Youth Programs at the Walt Disney World Resort, in conjunction with the GRAMMY Foundation® and Conn-Selmer, Inc., the leading manufacturer and distributor of band and orchestral instruments, will donate five unique hand-painted string basses for auction this year. The instruments were designed and painted by the world renowned Walt Disney Animation Studio artists who have created fully animated feature films since 1937.The Genie is by Brian Kesinger, Rapunzel by Claire Keane, Cheshire Cat by Douglas Rogers, The Princess and the Frog by Lorelay Bove, and Dumbo by Michael Surrey.
These one-of-a-kind masterpieces were created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Disney Magic Music Days, and will be shown for the first time on December 17, 2009 at The Midwest Clinic, an international band and orchestra conference in Chicago. The instruments will debut officially on February 4, 2010 at the GRAMMY Museum® in Los Angeles, CA. The instruments will then be displayed separately at music and art museums across the U.S.
Following the tour, the string basses will be auctioned by Julien's Auctions, the premier auction house in high-end celebrity estates and entertainment auctions, with proceeds benefiting the music education programs of the GRAMMY Foundation, which works year-round to bring national attention to the value and impact of music and arts education. The Foundation will assist in the auction and will distribute funds to various school music programs around the U.S.
Disney Magic Music Days has brought more than 30,000 student musical groups from all over the world to perform at Disney theme parks.
