Bulletstorm demo playthrough

Lots of highly strategic cartoonish ultraviolence on display in this walkthrough of the Bulletstorm demo.

Dead Space 2 demo walkthrough

Full playthrough of the scary and gory Dead Space 2 demo. It's starts off with a summary of the events of Dead Space 1. (I definitely prefer the suit from the first game to the new version.)

Tron Evolution playthrough

Here are the first two parts of a full playthrough of the Tron Evolution game. The videos do a good job of capturing everything that's wrong, and right with the movie - - the action is exciting and stylish, but the dialog is unbearable. At least this explains the totally extraneous genocide talk in the movie - - it's apparently what the game is all about.

I wish the cityscape with Recognizers menu screen was available as a screensaver.

Force Unleashed 2 playthrough

Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 has received fairly negative reviews, but it looks pretty good to me. You can watch the entire playthrough at Youtube. In the video I posted above, which takes place midway through the game, Starkiller directs a Rebellion cruiser past a Star Destroyer, into Kamino's atmosphere, and onto a collision course with the cloning facility. He then hurls himself out of the ship, freefalls onto the facility, and takes on an army worth of troopers and walkers. What's not to like?

The Force Unleashed 2 demo playthrough

The Force Unleashed 2 demo is now available for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Here's a full HD playthrough. It's fantastic, and includes a freefall battle against Tie Fighters.

Watch a suped-up Samus fight a giant tentacled-space monster (spoilers)

Here's the last 10 minutes of Metroid: Other M - - Samus, at the height of her powers, fights a giant tentacled-space monster, and then, for no apparent reason, strips down to her Zero Suit to flee a self-destructing spaceship. (The writing in this game was embarrassingly bad.)

BioShock 2 - Minerva's Den Playthrough

Part one of a playthrough of Minerva's Den, downloadable content for Bioshock 2.

Metroid: Other M playthrough

Opening cinema and first boss fight from Metroid: Other M. When I last checked, the Youtube user had uploaded the first two and a half hours or so of the game. (Samus and her new finishing moves look great, but otherwise the game gets stale fast. It's more or less the exact same Metroid scenes and enemies you've seen many, many, many times before.)

Starcraft II playthrough

The first in a series of Starcraft II mission playthroughs. I like the robotic Adjutant that gives you in mission advice:

Link roundup

1. Boing Boing has unveiled a new Gawker media-esque link submission tool.

2. Watch a full playthrough of Limbo. It gets very repetitive after the boy slays his tormentors, but the first half an hour or so is sublime.

3. Microsoft super heroes by M.S. Corley.

First 30 minutes of Limbo

Here's the first 30 minutes of Limbo. I've never seen a video game where failure was so interesting.

Link roundup

1. Ladies Only bar in Japan.

2. Limbo gameplay looks magnificent. You're really missing out if you don't watch until the end of the video. And there are some great screenshots here.

3. And speaking of games with great art, the Puzzle Agent demo is quite good and ends in a very clever way.

Lucy Van Pelt illustration (link roundup)

John Martz turned the Koyama Press mascot into Lucy Van Pelt as a commission.

And a few more links:

1. Review of several new books about Christianity is full of interesting details:
The odd absences in Mark are matched by the unreal presences in the other Gospels. The beautiful Nativity story in Luke, for instance, in which a Roman census forces the Holy Family to go back to its ancestral city of Bethlehem, is an obvious invention, since there was no Empire-wide census at that moment, and no sane Roman bureaucrat would have dreamed of ordering people back to be counted in cities that their families had left hundreds of years before. The author of Luke, whoever he might have been, invented Bethlehem in order to put Jesus in David’s city.

And a few more links:

1. Infinitely more interesting than the show - - a production manager on Deadliest Catch is wanted for selling drugs and is believed to be hiding in California. (I wish every episode of the show had a little bit of this inserted.)

2. How to fit items for a ten day trip in a carry on.

3. Watch the first (excellent and scary) 10 minutes of Alan Wake. And here's a roundup of reviews.

Dante's Inferno and God of War III demo playthroughs

Video playthroughs of the Dante's Inferno and God of War III demos. Dante's Inferno looks nice enough, aside from the disgusting moment at the beginning, but it pales in comparison to the God of War demo.
