Conan The Barbarian and Total Recall as musicals

OK, seriously, stop and watch these musicals by Jon and Al Kaplan - - it's as if Billy Crystal is doing an impression of Arnold and singing about Conan and Total Recall.

When Peter Pan attacks

The video is named "Greenport Peter Pan Fiasco," and the description says:
This is what happens when you mix flying rigs with Greenport...
Our 2009 production of Peter Pan went horribly wrong during the last five minutes of opening night. Thus ensued.

This is after a week with the flying professional. None of this is out fault. It was a mistake by the rig guys, and we were just tethered to the ceiling.
The awesomeness is not over when the stage is fixed...

Hello Kitty anatomy toys (link roundup)

And a few more links:

1. Sam Mendes will direct a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical.

2. I'm really enjoying SuperFreakonomics, and this paragraph does a great job of demonstrating how good the writing is, and how interesting the topic choices are:
Such birth defects aren't as rare as you think. Douglas Almond, examining U.S. Census data from 1960 to 1980, found one group of people whose terrible luck persisted over their whole lives. They had more physical ailments and lower lifetime income than people who'd been born just a few months earlier or a few months later. They stood out in the census record like a layer of volcanic ash stands out in the archaeological record, a thin stripe of ominous sediment nestled between two thick bands of normalcy.
Yes, they provide the answer. There's a similar heightened occurrence of birth defects for people born in certain months.

Alice in Wonderland opera by Unsuk Chin and Achim Freyer

Yesterday, I highlighted Achim Freyer's costumes from the LA Opera's production of "Das Rheingold." Today, let's look at his designs for the Alice in Wonderland Opera written by Unsuk Chin. Here's a video of the production:

And you can watch an eight-minute clip here. The opera received lukewarm reviews and China and Freyer apparently did not get along. The DVD is available at Amazon.

Great costumes (and lightsabers) on display in the LA Opera's production of "Das Rheingold":

The costumes are designed by Achim Freyer and his daughter Amanda Freyer.

"An Inconvenient Truth" the opera

The AP:
First it was the film and the book. Now the next stop for Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" is opera.

La Scala officials say the Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has been commissioned to produce an opera on the international multiformat hit for the 2011 season at the Milan opera house.

*Previously: Al Gore was perfect as the villain in Speed Racer.
