EpicWin game trailer

Here's the trailer for EpicWin, the new Rex Crowle game I mentioned yesterday:
Our lives are full of quests. Remember that birthday card, send that email, or drag ourselves to the gym on a regular basis.

Trouble is, sometimes we’re having too much fun doing other virtual stuff like hunting down rare items in World of Warcraft or leveling-up in Facebook games, to remember the stuff we’re supposed to be doing.

EpicWin is an iPhone app that puts the adventure back into your life. It’s a streamlined to-do list, to note down all your everday tasks, but with a role-playing spin.

Rather than just mentally ticking off your chores, completing each one improves and develops your character in an onging quest to level-up, gain riches, and develop skills.

Watch as your avatars stats develop in ways to represent your own life. Will you be a Maiden of Juggled Priorities, or a King of Win? The lifestyle you lead will decide.
Naturally, your progress is posted to Twitter and Facebook. Via.

(Blogging is actually very much like playing a video game. Writing posts is completing quests. I keep score by looking at visitor numbers, rss numbers, inbound links and comments. Special projects such as the Super Punch tarot (and what's coming in August) are achievements.)

Merlin's tale illustrated by Rex Crowle

The BBC has a website dedicated to British myths. Among the features are a flash game and various stories, including a tale of young Merlin illustrated by Rex Crowle.

The Merlin story is in English, but many are in Welsh, including this one about Morgana:

I swear this is the last time I'll post one of these parodies

"Lash out and cover up" by Rex Crowle.

Found while I was skimming Twitter for news on the Spector verdict (second degree murder) since the local news program in Los Angeles was instead showing footage of some woman in Germany who fell into a polar bear exhibit

and teasing a sale of Michael Jackson's property.

*Previously: Zoo sign says (and illustrates the concept), "If you sit on the fence you will fall in."

Water bottle lighting (link roundup)

The video shows how someone harnessed sunlight with water bottles to light a large room. Apparently each bottle threw off as much light as a 50 watt bulb. Via.

And a few more links:

1. Rex Crowle's Grip Wrench is on Twitter. Sample Tweet:
Punching a unicorn in the eye. Stupid unicorn.
2. Tropicana's hideous redesigned packaging caused its sales to plunge. Via.

3. Keypad with different buttons for the vocal samples from Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

4. Free toy with every order at Tenacious Toys in April. I recommend Horvath's Bossy Bear, Doktor A's Mechtorians, and Tokidoki's death's head plush.

*Previously: Daft Punk's "Something About Us" performed with a DS and theremin.

*Buy Daft Punk posters at eBay.

Rex Crowle incinerates Simon Cook

I'm usually not interested in Layer Tennis, but I'm a big fan of Rex Crowle, so I followed along today. If you're not familiar with the concept, two artists swap an image back an forth, getting fifteen minutes to complete each "volley" until both have had five turns embellishing the image. Today's match featured Rex Crowle (of Grip Wrench and Little Big Planet fame) and Simon Cook (who created a swell logo for a goat race).

Here's Simon's fourth volley:

and Rex's response:

I highly recommend you click through the entire match. The final volley is genius.

UPDATE: Cook's commentary.

Rex Crowle gets ready for Layer Tennis

Rex Crowle created this fellow for today's Layer Tennis match against Simon Cook.

Grip Wrench: Hollywood Stuntman

I love Rex Crowle's super violent Austrian stuntman Grip Wrench. This first episode parodies classic video games of the 80's:

And this episode parodies Tron (warning: crass, hilarious, adult content):

*Previously: Jeff Bridges sure is coquettish on the cover of Rolling Stone.
