Obey MODOK

Obey MODOK by Adam "Ape Lad" Koford for March MODOK Madness. Adam has various items on sale here.

You know it really was mysterious in the 90's to see Shepard Fairey's Obey logo around Los Angeles. I didn't know anyone who knew what they were, and it's not like you could just go onto the internet to find out.

Aretha Franklin's hat, immortalized (link roundup)

Go here for a roundup of photoshopped images featuring Aretha Franklin's inauguration day hat.

And a few more links:

1. Octo-mom costume.

2. I get a lot of my world news from Thomas Barnett. For example, strains in the relationship between Medvedev and Putin. And a place that desperately needs the help of a real life Magnificent Seven.

3. The name Boba Fett isn't mentioned in The Empire Strikes Back. Just another indication that he's one of the alltime best designed characters, ever. More surprising Star Wars trivia here.

4. Tenacious Toys now has an affiliate program and is giving away a Dunny with purchases over $50.

Create your own version of Shepard Fairey's Obama image

John Coulthart created this image of Edgar Allan Poe using the Obamicon.me program, which lets you turn any image into an approximation of Shepard Fairey's iconic image of Obama.

By the way, Fairey apparently took the image from a Reuters photo.

Shepard Fairey's Soviet propaganda-inspired campaign for Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue hired Shepard Fairey and Cleon Peterson to create some materials for them, and they came up with Soviet propaganda-inspired imagery. Eric Wilson for the NY Times has a good line: "If you are brave enough to buy a $2,000 Prada handbag, you might rationalize that you are helping to stimulate the economy."
