Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn

Rob Bricken is running a Best/Worst Nerdy Birthday Stories contest at Topless Robot, which reminded me of one of my favorite birthday parties - - seeing Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn with a bunch of friends.

(Turkish poster)

IMDB
offers this description:
A seeker named Dogen rescues Dhyana [Kelly Preston] after her father is murdered by the evil Jared-Syn. To avenge her father's death, Dogen must find Jared-Syn's hideout in the mysterious "Lost City", but the only person who knows where it is an aging, burned-out seeker named Rhodes. Along the way, they will need to do battle against the hunter Baal and his Cyclopean minions for engaging Jared-Syn in a final encounter.
It featured impressive laser effects:

People who were not Sand People:

And lots of stuff sticking out of the screen to take full advantage of the sophisticated 3-D technology:

Pretty awesome

2. Description of how Ogilvy tries to enlist people in throwing parties to promote a new American Express Card. Coincidentally, I just received an offer of payment to post a new advertisement for Lego - - I didn't even bother looking at the ad or responding to the offer. The irony is that if the promoter had simply told me about the ad, and it would have been cool, I would have gladly run it for free.

3. Very cool - - using an animated gif to create a 3D effect (let it fully load). Via.
