2. An isotope called technetium-99m, is used in more than 40,000 medical procedures every day in the US to test for cardiac disease, cancer and kidney trouble. It mostly comes from a 51-year-old reactor in Ontario, which has been shut down due to safety problems. Here's a semi-alarmist article about the problems that shortage might cause.

Street Angel: the movie



Film student Lucas Testro turned Jim Rugg's Street Angel into a movie:



You can watch a trailer and see various stills here (it features ninjas and Dr. Pangea, the world's deadliest geologist). And if you live in LA, there will be a free screening at USC's school of Cinematic Arts main dubbing stage on Friday, February 20th at 7:30 pm.
