David Gerrold, who wrote "The Trouble with Tribbles" episode of the original Star Trek TV show, also wrote an episode for Star Trek: The Next Generation called "Blood and Fire." But the episode was never made because it dealt with AIDS and homosexuality and was just too interesting:
"Blood and Fire" is the story of "a plague so horrible that Starfleet had issued standing orders not to attempt rescue of any infected ship but to destroy it immediately."
Star Trek: Phase II has now shot the script and will unveil it tomorrow (Friday the 11th) at the Shore Leave science fiction convention.
In the meantime, you can watch other episodes from Phase II here.
