Plush rainicorn (link roundup)

Plush rainicorn from Adventure Time.

And a few more links:

1. Phineas and Ferb/Clone Wars mashup birthday invite.

2. The alternate world DC Comics covers from the season finale of Fringe. That show would be a heck of a lot more interesting if it was told from the point of view of the "evil" Walter and Olivia, rather than just being an X-Files knockoff. Via.

Star Wars: Legion of the Droids

Star Wars: Legion of the Droids, and Indiana and the Hex of the Hyrda - - apparently these are some of the posters for movies from Fringe's alternate universe. Via.

Fringe's Selectric 251

Above is a real IBM Selectric typewriter.

The highlight of last night's season premiere of Fringe was the Selectric 251, a typewriter that allowed the episode's villain to communicate with people in another dimension via a magic mirror:

Tomb of Ligea poster (link roundup)

"Even on her wedding night she must share the man she loved with the 'Female Thing' that lived in the Tomb of the Cat." Tomb of Ligea stars Vincent Price, was directed by Roger Corman, written by Robert Towne, and based on a story by Edgar Allen poe. Here's the trailer:

3. New book alleges Bernie Madoff is a longtime, well-known liar and clumsy adulterer. Also, that he used to wear two watches so he could keep track of two time zones. (And if all that's true, then many of his "victims" must have suspected he was up to no good.)

Classic albums given Pelican Books-style covers (link roundup)

"Classic records lost in time and format, remerged as Pelican books" by Little Pixel. Big gallery at Flickr. Via.

And a few more links:

1. I had forgotten all about Bob Woodward's claims to have been made privy to some secret mind-blowingly awesome technology we were using in Iraq to hunt down Al Queda's top guys. But apparently General Stanley A. McChrystal, the new U.S. commander in Afghanistan, is credited with developing and running the program (whatever it is).

3. Cute rocket.

4. If Cyclops and Wolverine traded powers (creepier than you think).

Fringe and Dreamscape

Reading Annalee Newitz's excellent description of this week's episode of Fringe (which you can watch below) reminded me of one of my favorite movies - - Dreamscape.

I was just trying to verify that the movie really was called "Dreamscape" when I stumbled upon the poster, which I'd never seen before:

It looks so much like the Indiana Jones posters, I thought someone had made a mistake. But no, that's the poster for Dreamscape. Was the plan to trick people into thinking they were seeing another Indiana Jones movie?

The Observer from Fringe spotted at NASCAR race

I lost interest in the Fringe tv show pretty quick, but I like the way its mythology bleeds into other Fox broadcasts. Here's the mysterious Observer making an appearance at a NASCAR race:

Looney Tunes Last Supper (link roundup)

Looney Tunes Last Supper by Glen Tarnowski on display at the Chuck Jones Gallery in San Diego. It's apparently caused a few complaints. Via these sites.

Fringe ARG leaks into Fox's NFL broadcast

I lost interest in Fringe and its ARG pretty quickly because...the show was boring and the ARG was pretty much nonexistent at the time. But I'm intrigued to see that the mysterious character known as The Observer made an appearance at the Eagles/Giants game today:

Fringe-related sites

If you explore the Massive Dynamic website, you'll find several email addresses, a contact form, and a phone number. If you call the contact number, 1-877-867-7396, you'll be told that all representatives are busy. You can leave a message and are promised that they'll get back to you. Another website possibly linked to the show is Glowing Monkeys, which is a blog focusing on real world, "fringe science." I've turned in my email and phone number. We'll see what happens next.

Desktop Wallpapers for J.J. Abrams' Fringe

Since it starts in 30 minutes (in Los Angeles), seems like a good time to note that I posted four Fringe desktop wallpapers back in May.

Update: Whaddya know, another pro-torture show from Fox. All in all, it was pretty good despite the lead actress being entirely unconvincing. Here's the site for the mysterious Massive Dynamic company mentioned in the premiere. And here's a fansite dedicated to the show. Lots of screencaps there, like this one of the redhead's robotic arm:
